Liz Lieu - The Poker Diva; Biography

The world of poker is not something that resides within the
US any longer. While poker was largely a western game for many
years and the bulk of the best players came from within the
boarders, that has all changed thanks to the internet. The changing
face of poker is partly thanks to the World Series of Poker
who has managed to bring a new understanding of the game. This
is where players like Liz Lieu have really excelled.
As a young Vietnamese player, Liz Lieu did not find it hard
to break into this once exclusive club. She has managed to bring
her own brand of play to the tables and is turning heads while
she is doing so. Over the short time that she has been playing
one can see that she is truly a remarkable talent and continues
to rake large pots and tournament winnings.
Lieu started out as a cash game player, working the casinos
and so on looking for the biggest games. She doesn't enjoy
No Limit Hold'em
as much as she does Limit Hold'em - but she's skilled in any
poker game out there! She was a high class
player with a style that made most people simple fold their
hands. She had not yet embraced the tournament life until John Phan convinced her to join the 2005 World Series of Poker $1500
Limit event.
She played hard and managed to finish a highly respectable
5th place among the hundreds of contestants. This would earn
her over $168,000 in prize money and the respect of hundreds
of her peers.
While playing she was given the nickname “Poker Diva” something
that she approves of. Most will agree that this comes from her
stunning good looks and appeal to the players around her. This
is also something that she uses to her advantage when playing.
The same year she would enter the $5000 limit World Series
Event and place 12th and cash in the $3000 limit World Series
of Poker event. This is something incredibly difficult to do
for a player that is used to the standard action of the cash
games.
Since that first success she has twice won the LA Classic
Poker event and also placed high in several World Series of
Poker events. She has netted more than $690,000 in tournament
winnings.
She has also finished twice in the money in
World Poker Tour
events and continues to play them as often as she can.
The one thing that she has yet to achieve would be a bracelet
win in a World Series of Poker event. However, many would agree
considering her skill with the cards that she will one day join
the ranks of the rest of the bracelet winners and maintain her
high status in the world of live action poker.
